At LoveLibertyHill.com, we’re passionate about keeping you connected to what’s happening in our community—and that includes important updates from Liberty Hill ISD. Big changes are coming to the school calendar for the 2025–2026 school year, and here’s what local families need to know.
What’s New?
Liberty Hill ISD has officially adopted a hybrid calendar that will introduce four-day school weeks for students during select months of the year. The decision, finalized at the February 18 board meeting, is part of a broader effort to support teachers, manage budget constraints, and maintain a high standard of education.
Students will attend school Monday through Thursday during these months:
- October through November
- January through March
- May
During those periods, Fridays will be reserved for teacher planning and professional development, with no classes for students. The traditional five-day week will still be in place in August, September, December, and April.
Key Dates to Know
- First Day of School: Wednesday, August 12, 2025
- Thanksgiving Break: November 24–28
- Winter Break: December 22–January 2
- Spring Break: March 16–20
- Last Day of School (Early Release): Thursday, May 28
To make up for the reduced number of school days, 10 minutes will be added to the end of each school day, with finalized start/end times expected by the close of the current school year.
Supporting Our Teachers
This shift comes as Liberty Hill ISD prepares to reduce its budget by millions of dollars while welcoming an estimated 800 new students next year. Originally projected at over $17 million, the district has revised the shortfall and now anticipates needing to make approximately $3.7 million in cuts—down from earlier projections.
One goal of this new calendar is to give teachers the time and space they need to plan, grow, and avoid burnout. Professional development will take place on Friday mornings, followed by teacher work time in the afternoon. It’s a move the board hopes will not only retain the incredible educators already in the district, but also help attract new talent to support Liberty Hill’s continued growth.
What About Families?
Some families have raised concerns about arranging childcare on Fridays when students will be home. To help bridge the gap, the district plans to offer free childcare on Fridays for staff members and paid childcare options for families, in addition to existing programs available through the YMCA and other community providers.
Why This Matters to Us
As longtime residents and real estate professionals who proudly serve Liberty Hill and the surrounding Central Texas region, we understand that education is one of the biggest considerations for local families. We’re hopeful this hybrid schedule will help support Liberty Hill’s beloved educators while giving our students a well-rounded, future-focused learning experience.
We’ll continue to keep you informed about adjustments, including a potential calendar revision in March that may shift the school year to end before Memorial Day weekend.
